道德经一

Daodejing One: 3/59

dào

we have met this guy before…

remember what it means?

we said it meant “way”, or “path”, or “method”…

well it can also mean “speak”

so now we have 道dào 可kě 道dào…

which could mean

“way” “can” “way”

“way” “can” “speak”

“speak” “can” “way”

or

“speak” “can” “speak”

let’s first read this as

“way” “can” “speak.”

道可道

grammar is loose in ancient china

so we can read this as

“the way that can be spoken of”

or it might be

“way” “can” “way”

as in

the “way” which is a particular way

like “this way”

or “that way”
